Preparedness, attitude, getting
water where there is none, emergency navigation tools, navigating with, or
without a compass, emergency communication tools, maps and brief map
reading basics, staying out of trouble with locals and pocket survival
kit.
This book isn't intended to teach
readers how to live a primitive lifestyle by eating bugs, lizards and seeds.
It doesn't suggest you chop down an endangered species cactus that's taken
half a century to mature so you can have a gallon of water.
Desert Emergency Survival Basics
is intended to reach those hundreds of people who
will find themselves lost or stranded in the desert southwestern United
States next year, many of whom won't survive more than three days.
If Search and Rescue doesn't find them by the time they've been missing
for a week it's usually because they died of dehydration or exposure five
days ago. This book is 25 pages of practical, basic help to keep
that from happening.
Originally written for inclusion as a
chapter in The Lost Adams Diggings at the suggestion of the New
Mexico State Search and Rescue Coordinator to keep his volunteers from
having to "drag your readers out of the arroyos in body bags".
Expanded, detailed illustrations added 2003 .
Text and portions still included with
The Lost Adams Diggings,
The Myth, The Mystery and The Madness. This is sold
separately for those who have no interested in the Adams Diggings, but
still have the potential to become stranded in desert terrain. Adobe
pdf format.
